Recap: Mid-Atlantic Air Museum WWII Weekend

The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum hosted its 28th WWII Weekend earlier this month. While crewing the Commemorative Air Force TBM Avenger, Doris Mae, I was able to get some shots of the reenactors and aircraft performing. It was one of the most unique aviation events I’ve been to—both flying B-29s were in attendance, as were two B-17s, two B-25s, and several fighters and trainers.

The forecast leading up to the show looked pretty dismal — completely rained out Saturday and drizzly on Sunday. Thankfully, the storms held off and we ended up with two good days of flying.

One of the highlights of the show was seeing Owen Hughs, the 99-year-old WWII vet who painted the nose art on Doc, return from a morning flight on the B-29. He climbed out of the plane with a huge smile on his face and posed with the flight crew for photos.

You can check out that photo and some of the others that I got below.
